You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.

Thank you very much for that link, Lol.

You are most welcome, Oliver.

Coleridge-Taylor has a reputation as a one hit wonder which an early death contributed. I wasn't expecting too much from his violin concerto, but in fact it isn't at all bad. Well crafted with an exceptional slow movement.

Good to know Lol. Hardly know his music at all.

Listened to it this morning. Very informative, thank you. It helps, and adds to the enjoyment and appreciation also, that, after this last year, I am at least a little bit familiar with the bulk of the names mentioned in this broadcast.

One extract that really appealed to me was Hurlstone's variations on an Hungarian Air. Listening to it now on YT, really jolly stuff. Another new composer in the basket goes...  0:)

Hurlstone is interesting, a what if composer. In his case a fatal asthma attack. Lyrita recorded two Hurlstone sets of works which on LP confusingly sport similar covers. I agree that Variations on an Hungarian Air is preferable to the coupling of his piano concerto. The other is two chamber works, which thanks to you Oliver I will listen to this evening. :)
