Thank you so much for all of your hard work and helping our little music community keep in touch, learn from one another and grow as people.   :)

Best wishes,

PD

The server only seems to go down when I happen to be away.
How convenient.  ;)

Thanks, Rob!

Glad to see the site back up. Was it just coincidence that the crash happened soon after the forum software was updated?

If new members joined during the wiped out interval, would their accounts be gone?

Thanks for getting everything back online!

Yes, it can't be easy. First the "Guests" problem and now this! Run itself it does not.

Very true. I seem to recall a couple of years ago that the whole site crashed, but this was before my time here on GMG. I just remember reading about it. But we have had several bumps and hiccups since I joined. One time I think the whole site was down for a week. I could be misremembering.

It is certainly good to be back. One certainly does miss it when it is not available. I think that is a fair testimony to this site and to its membership.

It's fantastic to see the forum working again. Before the place problems occurred (on last Sunday) my computer suffered a crash too and I lost some important information. A weird close coincidence.

Was your information non-recoverable?

Hi all, and welcome back.

We had a major server failure on May 19 , and I couldn't diagnose or resurrect it.

Fortunately, I keep weekly backups of the forum and I have restored the forum from the latest backup.

Good news: forum is back
Bad news: restored from a backup made on 15/5/2020.

So we have travelled back in time to the 15th, and any post made between the 15th and the 19th is gone. Sorry 'bout that.

Rob

Considering I've been spending lockdown watching (for the first time) Star Trek: The Next Generation, time travel is entirely appropriate.

Thanks for getting us all back on line.

Thanks for asking. I could recover some files by using a special software.

Good job. Not the most exciting method of time travel, but probably better than getting stuck in prehistoric era and getting eaten by a t-rex.
