Yes, we have a problem
« on: June 03, 2020, 11:55:09 AM »
Dear all

We had yet another server crash yesterday, and I could not resurrect it using conservative techniques.

I had to restore the entire system from a backup from May 29. So all data entered after that date has been lost. Again.

My sincere apologies.

I will investigate why this continues to happen. I think you deserve better than to have data loss every few weeks.

I will keep you all informed.

Apologies again.
Rob

Thank you.

Do you think the recent forum update has to do with this?

Thanks, Rob. It seems that since you’ve done the new update that things haven’t been stabilizing. I really hope this isn’t an ongoing occurrence.

Thank you, Rob. I guess this means Que will need to lock the Trump thread again!

Query: is it possible/feasible to back up more frequently, at least until the underlying problem is solved?

Good to be back and thanks Rob.
Most of my posts are repeats of what I've already said - so won't make much difference to me!

I was very close to pass 8000 posts so of course the server crashed!  :P
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural

One possible upside is SimonNZ is showing up as a member and not a guest.  If he wishes to return at least he won't have to re-register.

I didn't even know he left.  :o

Politics-related? Regrettable news, but I avoid those threads (OK, after a brief period of folly) for a reason.

If it keeps this up, I won’t have any posts left. :P But, seriously, this really sucks and I know it isn’t Rob’s fault but many of the exchanges with other members I have had over the past week are gone and some of these were very good while the others were rubbish.

Thank you, Rob, for all that you do, especially since this board is a labor of love. It's a sign of success that GMG has worked its way into the lives of so many people around the world. Even for those of us who don't post that often, we miss it when it's gone.

The spelling control through Google is not working properly anymore on GMG, sometimes its impossible to correct a word, even though it signals that it is wrong and gives the correct word, it will not let me post it. And often it overlooks the faulthy words.
There comes a point in your life when you realize: Who matters, Who never did, Who won't anymore, And who always will. So, don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future.

… music is not only an 'entertainment’, nor a mere luxury, but a necessity of the spiritual if not of the physical life, an opening of those magic casements through which we can catch a glimpse of that country where ultimate reality will be found.    RVW, 1948
