Artie wants to know your 'Top 5' favorite works of his? This might be a tough poll for some or it could be an easy one. In any case, maybe it'll give some members a reason to revisit some of his oeuvre.

My picks for today (in no particular):

String Quartet No. 2, H. 103
Horace victorieux, H. 38
Concerto da camera, H. 196
Symphony No. 2 for Strings and Trumpet, H. 153
Trois Chansons de La Petite Sirène, H. 63

Symphonic Addict

Le Roi David (original version) (I haven't heard the full orchestra version)
Symphony No. 3 (or Sonatina for violin and cello)
String Quartet No. 2
Violin Sonata, H 143
Une Cantate de Noël

All fine choices, Cesar. 8) I need to revisit Le Roi David. It's been far too long.

Coincidentally am listening to this great set as my early morning listening:

Now, let's see:

Symphony 3 'Liturgique' (Karajan)
Symphony 4 'Delights of Basel' (Ansermet)
Symphony 5 'The Three D's' (Markevich)
Joan of Arc (Baudo)
Pastorale d'ete or L'Idee film music.

I don't know enough of Honegger's works to contribute a list. But I'm gonna stay and ponder on the coolness of this dude's jacket.

Let's see, let's see...

In number one position (by a wide margin), Jeanne d'Arc au bûcher...

...followed by (in no particular order):
- Symphony No. 4, " Deliciæ Basilienses"
- Six poèmes de Guillaume Apollinaire (particularly the third one, Automne)
- Pastorale d'été
- Une cantate de Noël

The 2nd and 3rd symphonies with Baudo are the ones that really stand out for me.

As for selecting 5, I'd have to check further ...

Although I didn't choose it myself +1 for your final choice. Written, I believe, when Honegger was terminally ill in hospital - very moving.

To be fair, Rugby is not a great work. But I met my current wife who is a big All Black fan, and that's when I first listened to Rugby. Thus the high ranking!

That sounds like a very good reason for including it on your list Paul  :)

I seem to recall playing my wife (then girlfriend) John Foulds's 'Dymanic Tryptich' when we were first going out - maybe to imply how dynamic I was myself (no comments please). I recall that all she said (sarcastic tone) was 'well, it certainly is very dynamic isn't it?'

What a great picture!

It sure is. Honegger looks like he should be a private investigator. ;D

I'm definitely going to have to rethink my choices, but these are all works I love, so there might one or two from this list that make to my new list.
