It's at the bottom of the reply text box ("Click or drag files here to attach them"). If you are in "Quick Reply" the option isn't available; click "Preview" to change modes.

Thank you. How can I do the same in a private message I want to send?

I'm not sure. That may not be possible with this forum software.

You could use the photo logo next to the YouTube button if the photo is online with a URL. I would suggest uploading a photo to a free service like imgur and then using the link that way.

When I try to save a photo to post (CD cover) it now defaults to 'downloads' rather than 'pictures' - so I can't post it. Any suggestions please?

I just tried to add an image from my iPhone and the forum software said "you can't upload a JPEG file" and then it rattled off a list of acceptable file types that includes JPG.

This is a bit bizarre when they're the exact same file type. Does anyone know a way around this?
I finally have the ability to edit my signature again. But no, I've no idea what I want to say here right now.

What I do on my Android phone:

When the file extension is ****.jpeg, then rename the file ****.jpg.
If Iphone warns about the peril of changing file types, ignore the warning.

Thanks. I was trying to figure out last night if there was a way to rename and couldn't manage it. Tried again just now and found a tutorial and it worked...

...and then turned out the file was too big for the forum   Different problem to solve, if I send the photo to my computer I can address all this.

I found it wouldn't upload an image directly from Photos like that but saving it to Files prouduced an acceptable JPG.

Yes, the Files app was part of the solution.

I just thought I would share that under "Look and Layout" on the personal dropdown menu at the top left of the site, you can choose from a number of different icon sets for the smileys.

I am so thrilled to have stumbled across this option and be able to choose ones that I can better enjoy -- and better read, since they look like the ones on my phone.  8)

Probably answered on multiple occasions... is the a 'dark' theme setting that I can't find?

It is all very eye-burny bright round here ...

It would be under look and layout if it were... and there is nothing. There is no dark theme.

But I'll tell you a little trick that I do with PC monitors. I hold up a sheet of paper, and then I turn down the brightness until it matches the paper. Bam, no more eye strain!

And then phones and tablets' auto brightness usually works fine.

Hm. Fire the Simple Machines' User Researcher team, UX designers and all associated Project folk. Silly people.

Possible alternative: I don't know about other browsers but in Opera, if you select the Opera Dark Theme in Settings, you can "force" it on all web pages. Not ideal as you can't recognise the smileys, but for browsing that seems to work.

See printscreens.

How do I make an album cover appear above my text in a post? I've just had the devil of a time inserting an image in the "What are you listening 2 now?" thread and had to settle for text above image instead of the other way round, not to mention a dotted line appearing between the two. I tried to upload via the image & url method in the UI but had no joy, and instead saved the image as a jpeg to my hard drive and uploaded it that way. Apologies for my limited understanding of such matters.

@Hitch

the 'Insert an Image' button option (with copy/pasting an image URL between URL brackets) allows you to post the picture first then some text underneath. See above my quoted post of yours.

If you use the upload of a saved image, it will only show underneath a line under your post.

(actually there is also a glitch with the upload option: If you click only "upload" it will insert the picture underneath that bottom line. If you also click "Save" it will insert that same picture a second time...at the bottom of your post... just to add to the confusion  )
