From across the channel came this record industry much-ignored composer.

- studied with Jean Doyen (piano) and Milhaud (composition) at Paris Conservatoire (1949–53)
- composed the Suite humouristique as a teen for radio after winning a commission
- won the Prix de Rome in 1955 with Le rire de Gargantua (a cantata for soprano, tenor, bass and orchestra)
- won Grand Prix of the city of Paris in 1964 for Symphonie-sérénade
- in the mid-Sixties, became a conductor, making tours of France, Belgium, the USA and Canada
- granted a post at the Paris Conservatoire
- incorporated elements from jazz to folksong
- musical style is influenced by Milhaud, Françaix and Prokofiev
