I've discovered some works by John Ritchie (1921-2014) on Youtube:

Suite for Strings No.1
Suite for Strings No.2
Concertino for Clarinet and Strings
String Quartet

They are all very pleasant and effective works, in places reminiscent of Finzi and similar English composers. There is a disk which contains the first three works which I shall be getting (NB in the Youtube SS2 the strings are a bit out of tune :( ).
'Many men are melancholy by hearing music, but it is a pleasing melancholy that it causeth.' Robert Burton

'...is it not strange that sheepes guts should hale soules out of mens bodies?' Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing

Interesting.

"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

'The test of a work of art is, in the end, our affection for it, not our ability to explain why it is good' (Stanley Kubrick).

No relation I assume/guess but the music of Anthony Ritchie is very fine indeed.  I particularly enjoyed his Symphonies Nos. 3&4

(the latter is a link to the CD filler - "A Bugle will do")

Why didn't it come up in a search?

Edit: I've just found that Anthony Ritchie is John's son!

Aah! Interesting.  Never heard any of Dad's music but he must have been proud of his son!
