Apparently there were enough nuclear warheads on board to annihilate the entire population of the UK.

I thought that this story might provide a temporary distraction from coronavirus and the US election.

I especially liked the detail about the left-over barbecue chicken.

We once experienced a missile fired by accident here in Denmark, luckily only destroying 4 summer cottages and damaging around 130 others  ...

Terrible!

And, of course, during the first performance of Handel's 'Royal Fireworks', some of the fireworks exploded sending burning debris on to the audience:

An interesting aspect was that originally, the frigate commander got all the trouble, but due to investigative work from journalists and a second survey, the US company missile had to give in and pay all  the compensations, including for damaged houses etc., since a similar accident had happened a bit earlier elsewhere. Nowadays, in hindsight, the episode is viewed with a certain overbearing humour, and it's popularly known as the "Hovsa-Missilet", the "Oops-Missile". Of course, this is based on the lucky outcome, that literally nobody was hurt.

Yes, thank goodness that nobody was hurt.

... music is not only an 'entertainment', nor a mere luxury, but a necessity of the spiritual if not of the physical life, an opening of those magic casements through which we can catch a glimpse of that country where ultimate reality will be found.    RVW, 1948

The fireworks were not handeled properly... ...at least the performance didn't leave anyone cold.

Someone who had stepped barefoot on a Lego block while going to the fridge in the middle of the night wanted to destroy Legoland?
