Love this one by Joseph Danhauser from 1840. Left to right are Alexandre Dumas, Victor Hugo, George Sand, Niccolo Paganini, Gioacchino Rossini, Liszt and Liszt's mistress Marie d'Agoult. Also note the bust of Beethoven on the piano and painting of Byron on the wall. Magic  :)

Anyone find it hilarious and disturbing at the same time that i have all of these color photos of happy families and then i have a black and white photo of a Native American family, which, btw, looks quite scared. The truth is, most of the Native American pictures in Google Images is either black and white or paintings. As Chris Rock once said, "there's one group of people you have to feel bad about....... when is the last time you've even seen ONE Native American?"  ;D  :P

Greg,I had to look up Nascar... ::)....Mon dieu! cars!

This is more what I have in mind with transportation...& sports! : ;D ( I was born in the wrong century)

Nascar..... something i don't get at all. One big track with cars that only turn left, i don't understand people! If I want racing, Indy racing is the way to go.  $:)

My dad used to bike (although can't now, since there's no sidewalks where we live now)- but he still has his bike which cost, what, 1 or 2 thousand bucks (it was so long ago, can't remember)- one of those types of bikes you see in the Tour de France (which he likes watching).

Here's one that I like a lot. It is a wonderful blend of realism and not-quite-realism, the unusual perspective appeals to me greatly. It's a Shiveley, oils, 36" X 48". Living in farm country as we do, it suits us in many dimensions. :)

I think Indycar uses normal ones sometimes, but not often (and from my experience they tend to crash all the time when not using the circular ones :-\)... Any motorsport popular outside of the US will generally not use circular tracks - Formula 1 is an example :)

Formula 1- there ya go, that's what i meant!  8)
I used to have a video game called "Formula 1" that i played all the time- in fact, if it weren't for that game, i really wonder how i would've gotten into music- the music tracks it had piqued my interest in a certain guitarist, which eventually lead to classical...... but that's another story.

I'm a sucker for virtually every astronomical image from every spacecraft, orbiting and ground-based telescopes (and even some extremely talented amateur astrophotographers), but you don't get a view like this often.


In a way, we are actually looking back at ourselves in that picture.

Members of the Khevsur tribe in Georgia. When they were "discovered" by the west, they were found to be in possession of ancient armour and weapons in styles dating from the time of the crusades, and their traditions also reflected medieval Christian practices, so naturally theories have been put forward that they are descendents of crusaders who became lost or chose not to return. This early 1900s photograph of them is a treasure.
