Funny, even though this joke does rely on vicious stereotyping.

How? Some idiot girl doesn't know that there's a Georgia in Europe.

More likely that some wag thought it would be amusing to post as if some idiot in Georgia thought the news reports were about Russia attacking the US.  The stereotype is that Southerners are dumb.

I admit, a few things made me suspect it could be fake, but I won't let that get in the way of something funny ;D

At this point I am able to believe that such a level of stupidity is possible.

I believe it possible, too.  I see evidence of it every day.  (I drive on public roads!)  I just think it more likely that the post above was a joke rather than real.

There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission.

Interesting picture. I had to look up "Daghestan" - never heard of it.It's on the Caspian Sea. I actually have no idea what that region of the world looks like. Is the Caspian Sea region warm, like the Mediterranean?

I too had never heard of the place, nor had any idea what it looked like until I came across it while desultorily browsing Wikipedia. According to them, "The climate is hot and dry in the summer but the winters are hard in the mountain areas."

A picture request: A medieval/early renaissance painting of a skinny impish looking green devil "tempting" a nobleman in a hall (perhaps stairs in the background) - the devil has an ass with a face on it.

I have tried searching through random artist pages on Wikipedia, Googling with various keywords, but all these attempts have failed. The painting is quite striking and reasonably well-known.

This is immensely vaguely what it looks like. Perhaps the only accurate part of it might be the size/position/colour of the Devil - but it gives a kind of impression of it, to jog some minds:

Edit: Oh, and it looks totally Flemmish/northern in style.

Edit2: Sorry for spam, found two similar pics - devil is on the same side in both and is similarly skinny:

FRom my newspaper, ealier this week . It looks as if Dagestan may become an important region, since pipelines ( both oil and gas) are being planned by the EU that will pass through that region.
At the moment Georgia is very important for these energy - pipelines. A new (gas)pipeline ( ready ca 1913) "Nabucco" will - propably- pass through Georgia ....

How did anyone get into my son's room? I have just been helping him resite a shelf for his TV and DVD player. It 'fell off' the wall last weekend with a mighty crash. He assured me that the equipment would not have been harmed as it fell onto a vast pile of clothes on the floor under the shelf....he was right, the stuff is in situ and working.
