In terms of art, 19th Century painters have always been an interest:

Claude Monet

I do agree! I visited Monets garden this summer in full flower and saw some of the real objects (Rouen cathedral, too) of his paintings. Totally wonderful. How nice to see some real art inbetween lots of, frankly, crass and crappy stuff. Though Saras picture was fun!

I can't see why that Japanese stuff caught on.

Now an exhibition in Brussels : Charles Van der Stappen.
He not only designed lampposts (!)... but also created some of the most exquisite Art Nouveau sculptures in Europe.

Susan & I just returned from our 6-day Maine vacation - an experience for those who may be traveling to this coastal Atlantic state is a visit to the Portland Light, which goes by various names but basically a lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth - the sea looks calm in the photo below but splashing waves against the rocky shoreline is quite dramatic (as is much of the coast of Maine) -  :D

Well this is taking a darker turn.

Why didn't I see it until now - this is what is behind Obama's mask.
