the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

It's like a Rube Goldberg machine!  :D

And, not surprisingly, the cat is the brains of the outfit!

Jesus Christ and Mary Holy Mother of God! The man who is directly responsible for the Gulag, one of the greatest ennemies of liberty who ever walked on Earth, a notorious mass-murderer has a statue in the US!!! Adorned with a star for... Christmas??? :o :o :o

How I wish that the "quirky artistic community" of Fremont lived in the tyranny instituted and ruled by Comrade Lenin!

Really, this is outrageous and a direct insult to the memory of the millions of innocent people who died at the direct orders of, or as a result of the policies initiated and directed by, Lenin.

I wish my town had one.

I think the one from Bucharest, taken down amidst great popular joy and celebration in 1990, is still intact. Write to your mayor, maybe he'll buy it. After all, we need all the money we can get.  ;D

But then again why not trying the real thing instead of a statue?  ;D

I know the People's Republik of Cambridge would like one!

You mean Cambridge, Mass. or Cambridge, UK?

Not lefty enough for the People's Republic of Davis.  Unless he was really a lesbian in drag.

Grimshaw.
Out of the many artworks and paintings I see, Grimshaw still holds me.

Recently saw the Van Gogh, Gauguin, Cézanne and Beyond: Post-Impressionist Masterpieces from the Musée d'Orsay show at the de Young http://deyoung.famsf.org/orsay .  One of the finest and most memorable special exhibitions I've ever seen.  Saw several pieces I'd never seen before, even in reproduction, and loved several.  For me the big revelation was this painting by Gauguin, in 1886.  The long directional brush strokes and vibrant color (the reproduction doesn't begin to do it justice--it's vital and glowing with light!) are reminiscent of van Gogh--but before van Gogh had developed his characteristic style, and before they lived together at Arles.

This is a recent pic of people I used to know- the guy being a very close childhood friend that I basically grew up with, and the girl being not quite a friend, but someone I knew because she was in many of my class in school for many years.

For some reason, she was the only girl I liked from the last year of elementary school (5th grade), all throughout middle school, and through most of high school. No one knows that, probably because that might be a little creepy.  :-\

The picture looks very good, though!

Well, they would be- they're just friends.  :)
