Robert Schumann's 4th Symphony in D premieres. Chronologically, it was the second symphony he composed but is listed as being his fourth. Although the original performance received favorable reviews, Schumann's publisher declined to accept the work. The composer heavily revised the symphony in 1851 (after composing two more symphonies) and it was that version that reached publication.
