Dallas Symphony 21/22

Brian:
A whole new season of concerts announced! How about that for returning to normal?

Unfortunately the Dallas Symphony's 21-22 season looks pretty pops-heavy and conservative. Beethoven 9 is back, the big concertos by Rach and Tchaik, all the usual hit parade. There is a big push for diversity but it's often mixed in to the pops, like a program of Coleridge-Taylor's Violin Concerto (Dallas premiere) coupled with...Bolero.

Some things that jump out to me:

September 16-19

Converse - The Mystic Trumpeter
Copland - Organ Symphony
Brahms - Symphony No. 1

Bradley Hunter Welch, organ
Fabio Luisi

September 23-26

Weber - Oberon overture
Joan Tower - Flute Concerto
R. Strauss - Aus Italien

David Buck, flute
Fabio Luisi

November 4-6

R. Strauss - Metamorphosen
Mozart - Requiem

Fabio Luisi + soloists
Is this the most depressing program ever??

January 13-14

Elgar - Violin Concerto
Hailstork - Epitaph for a Man Who Dreamed
Schumann - Symphony No 1

James Ehnes, violin
Fabio Luisi

January 20-23

Brahms - Piano Concerto No 1
Schmidt - Symphony No 4

Daniil Trifonov, piano
Fabio Luisi

April 28, 30, May 1

Mozart - Sinfonia concertante
Prokofiev - Symphony No. 6

Leonidas Kavakos, NOT violin - conductor!!! (soloists from the orchestra)

Some, to me at least, cool upcoming concerts (fast scan); so what will Leonidas Kavakos be conducting?  :)
