Mozart Symphony No. 38 'Prague' - Recorded by Whom?
« on: April 29, 2021, 08:04:51 PM »
Attached is a sample from from Mozart's Symphony No. 38, converted from a cassette tape. I copied that cassette tape in about 1985, but didn't write down the conductor or orchestra. The entire first movement clocks in at about 9 minutes and 30 seconds.

Edit: My original upload was off-pitch because I used a 1980's Walkman to rip the sample. I adjusted the playback to get the correct pitch. Now the first movement takes about 11 minutes and 15 seconds. The updated sample is attached.

If I had to make guess, a wild guess, it would be Karl Böhm and the Vienna Philharmonic.

A light, gracious performance.

9:30 is less than average.

Bøhm on DG (Berliner, Wiener) takes more time, around 10:30 and 13:40.

I see that a Schuricht (there are several) can be 9:15 - 9:40 ... sound perhaps from another era.
