Maybe we need a general thread about comedy? What do you think? I got the idea just now because I wanted to commiserate with people about the death of Norm Macdonald. He was one of my favorites and I've been depressed today at the news of his passing.

I am deeply saddened by the news of Macdonald's passing. He was one of the comedy greats for sure. I mean the outpouring from other comedians, actors, TV hosts, etc. speaks volumes. Apparently, he had leukemia for quite some time, but chose not to tell the public, which is admirable.

I found his last appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman to be especially touching:

I used to like John Mulaney's standup, and it's taken me a while to get used to this guy who kept on saying he was so in awe of his wife, as part of his comedic routine, just upped and left this wife for a Hollywood bimbo.

I've recently learnt that Philip Proctor (of the Firesign Theatre) co-hosts a podcast: this is an interview with "Weird Al":

Many classic moments. There is an amusing aside to this one. The director laid it on the line - we can only shoot this scene once! No retakes! You must not laugh! David Jason recounts as they acted the coup de grace they looked down from the step ladder to see the director with an handkerchief stuffed in his mouth and face bright red suppressing laughter. ;D
