I got sent a link that works via Gramophone Magazine that provides a stream of the Chopin Competiton on a day by day basis. Round one is interesting. 87 competitors who are asked to play a Nocturne, two etudes and either a Ballade or a Scherzo. The range of both Nocturnes and Etudes has been limited and I wonder if that was a condition of the first round - I suspect so.

The two pieces that have interested me are Op 48/1 and Op 10/1. Both have proved to be stumbling blocks for a number of competitors so far. The Nocturne for it's interpretative difficulties. I'm amazed at how many of the competitors have been found wanting in Op 10/1. To me, it has always been the most difficult of the etudes - that 'thumb' position!

Here is the link

If you put that in your browser tomorrow it should come up with an opportunity to watch Day 3.

Enjoy!
Cheers
