For starters I'm plannig on taking an entire Gregorian Chant as a basis and counterpoint the heck out of it.

Well I already took one. This first part is repeated 3 times (like it says in the book) varying which voice has it, the relations of the other voices and the orchestration.

Had to add key signatures because I kept hearing clashings that where missed accidentals.

Sort of finished that Kyrie in a rush of heavy hours of work on it, link is the same.
Also changed some things to make some sections less dissonant.

Just listened to this before I read your most recent post - and was thinking that I wished there was more dissonance in it. The harmony is static over long periods, which detracts a little from its effectiveness, I think, given that though the inspiration is Gregorian chant, the overall sound-world is very modern. The counterpoint is easier to hear in this piece, though.

I'll be combining a more harmonically controlled approach with this type of counterpoint soon enough. Possibly polychords from octatonic scales.
