Adding Elena Firsova

Without wishing to derail the thread to female composers, I would very much recommend Elizabeth Maconchy (SQs), Karin Rehnqvist (On a Distant Shore, Solsangen, ), Elena Ruehr (SQs), Kaija Saariaho (just about everything), and if you can stretch to symphonies, Alla Pavlova.

I doubt any of these are new to you, but they have all become firm favourites of mine and are worth a mention as often as anyone will listen:)
"A quiet secluded life in the country, with the possibility of being useful to people ... then work which one hopes may be of some use; then rest, nature, books, music, love for one's neighbour — such is my idea of happiness"

Thank you for the review, didn't know Rehnqvist or Ruehr or Pavlova (aside from the dessert). I may also add that I listen to Anna Thorvaldsdottir from time to time.

Arktis! Arktis! is my favourite work of Rehnqvist's. Solsangen is a different beast. Fortitude and a stiff drink are recommended  ;).
