You mandryka remind me of a suggestion from yours some years ago, and it's Dirait-on, de Morten Lauridsen.

In this particular case is for mixed chorus and piano. Truly singular, sober, expresing purity and something about memory. We must preserve our memories.
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied. The terror IS REAL!

::) A voice and piano doesn't do anything for you? Even if it's the purest, most opulent musical creation you've ever heard? I think what is needed is musical richness. Even as much as I admit to not being particularly crazy about a cappella music, there still is some music here that is alluring to my ears.

What I consider to have into account if I enjoy lieder or songs is the singing doesn't get tiresome or poor enough to appeal to me. If it were for voice and any other instrument formation, it would be easier to me, actually. Or maybe do I need truly hear suggestions and persevere? Who knows?

I can only tell you, and this is coming from someone who wasn't a fan of lieder previously, that when you find a composer that has the imagination for writing for this genre then the magic of the medium comes alive. The composer that opened my ears to the genre was Debussy. From him, I learned to appreciate and, eventually, love many pieces that I wouldn't have even batted an eye at earlier. So I do think you can find your way into the genre, you just have to open to it. It also helps to love piano and, make no mistake, I love the piano more now than I ever did. This in conjunction with a beautiful voice is enough to send my mind to another place. Keep trying.
