Looking at the composer list on here, this provides an opportunity to not only introduce a new composer, but also a new country to the list.

Ecuadorian composer Luis Humberto Salgado was born in 1903 and died in 1977. Last year Brilliant Classics released a 3-disc set of his 9 symphonies, which I ordered today and should receive tomorrow. Sounds like they could be interesting works. They range in length from about 12 minutes (Nos. 2 & 9, each in one movement) to a little over 30.

I saw that Brilliant set, but not knowing anything about him, held off getting it.
I'll be interested in what you say about it.

I did hear an excerpt from that set a while ago. I thought that the music in istelf is promising, but alas, the playing and recording leave considerably much to be desired.
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied.

This is exactly what has kept me from buying the set. I love so many Latin American composers and always happy to discover more, but I'm not going to be listening to a mediocre performance of them.

If this is the only performance of them then what even is mediocre? There's nothing else to judge it against. Also the music is the most important thing.

They are all truly excellent works so far. Very much worth exploring.

Yes, but if the music isn't performed with passion and a deep understanding of the idiom, then I'm not interested. Judging from the reviews I've read, I'm not missing anything.
