Mekel, I'm not sure if you're aware, but you can change the layout of TC and it'll look like this:

https://www.talkclassical.com/forums/

I'm not trying to get you to jump the GMG ship, but your history with TC is far too precious to get back --- I'm sure you'll have people who will miss your posts. I jump between three forums: GMG, TC and the Steve Hoffman Forum. There are knowledgeable people on all of these sites.

Welcome to the forum, Mekel:)

I see you have particular interest in the Classical period. An interest shared by quite a few members here.  :)

I'm curious about your ideas on why we are attracting less traffic than the others?

When I say traffic, I'm actually referring to membership and actual posts.

Here are TC's statistics in nutshell:

2.2M posts
34.3K members

As to why I believe GMG to have less membership and posts is something that I cannot answer and would be impossible for me to determine. Is it forum visibility? I mean there could be many factors at play.

I've found with other subjects that very quiet forums tend to put new users off from joining. It seems busy enough for that not to be a problem but maybe people looking for a forum go for the one that seems most active. :-\

I think for many people, a busier forum means more stimulation, but I have found that GMG is the happy medium between busy and quiet.

You are very kind.  Even with the link though, the site still has some very annoying (and a few disgusting) ads that I can't turn off.  Plus, I don't agree with creating an elite "subscribers only" status.  Everything is set up to make money rather than share information and ideas, so I'm out.  I've received a lovely welcome here though, and I really like the simple format here.  It's very user friendly, so I'll be content here.

I'm not a fan of the ads either and disagree with the fact that if you're subscriber only then can you bypass them. There's ads on GMG, too, and subscriber status bypasses them, but ads only appear at the bottom of pages here and that's it. Anyway, I'm glad you're here as a new face is always welcome.

Hmm, rather a lot of obtrusive ads, even in between two posts in a thread. If anyone wants to investigate further, rotating my iPad between landscape and portrait orientation seemed to help, and zooming in with landscape so the ads to the right couldn't be seen.

Yes, this is one my reasons for posting less and less there. It is annoying to read through posts and have to see adds in-between them. I think TC made a mistake in this new and "improved" look and layout.

Interesting, as I don't see any advertisements on TC at all, either on computer or phone, and I do not subscribe. Perhaps I have an ad-blocker built in to Firefox or Dolphin, my browsers of choice?

A warm welcome from Romania, Olias!

As for TC vs GMG, my opinion is that the former is to the latter as adding and subtracting is to calculus.  ;D

Hmmm...that must be one hell of an ad-blocker.

Same.  I use Opera which has a built-in ad and tracker blocker.  And I just checked on Firefox my secondary browser and didn't see any ads either on TC.

Equally strange since I don't think I have one installed.
