"Are autographs less popular with the younger crowd" is a thread I saw on another general music board, though it's more pop music centered with an older age demographic. Consensus over there seemed to be younger people preferred taking a selfie with the musicians instead of an autograph.

I'm curious how others here remember classical concerts- just the experience of seeing/hearing music performed, speaking to the musicians afterward, selfies, autographing CDs/programs, etc.

I will try and speak to them afterward, and often that is good enough. Sometimes I'll try and remember to take a CD to get autographed but these don't really mean too much to me as I listen to ripped music and it's not too common for me to go back to the physical media.

I got to chat with Hilary Hahn after a recital for a few minutes.  She signed my Bach concertos CD and posed for a selfie with me.  I gave her a card that I had written earlier thanking her for coming.  I still have both the picture and CD, but what was meaningful was simply the interaction.  She was very polite and had a long line of people waiting to see her.  I found out later she was getting on a plane early the next morning to go to Rome to play for Pope Benedict's birthday (the one that is on DVD).  She made sure she saw EVERYONE in line before leaving.  That impressed me.

I think that there are so many fake autographs out there that most people would rather have the selfie nowadays.  That's understandable.  I'm thrilled I got both.  :)

I also don't think that it is a generational thing.  I think people of any age group would prefer a photograph with a celebrity over an autograph.  And I agree with you that the signed autograph is the ultimate.

This was from 2007.  It's a little blurry because the lighting was dim and she understandably requested everyone turn their flash off.  She was very lovely and it was a nice memory.

We used to keep programmes, but then found that we never really looked back at them anyway.

Now I like to write a personal review on a Facebook photo album, maybe with a poster for the actual concert, and then I can revisit the album when I want and recapture what I felt at the time.

Yes I find that the concert was memorable I don't need the program, and if it wasn't memorable then who cares!

Nice pic Olias.

I'm terrible at keeping such materials organized. I know l still have the program from the most memorable concert l ever attended in 1982, but l think that's about it.
