Outstanding list, Ilaria! You and I share many common favorites for sure. 8)

Thank you, John! Yes, definitely; it doesn't surprise me, since at the time, you recommended me a lot of recordings and composers.  8)

Here's 20 more, which makes me five short of 50, I will have to narrow it down as I have more than five I could add.

I could make a very interesting listening list out of this thread.

Admittedly there have been a few recordings mentioned that I know I don't like. But there are more that I know I do, and a heck of a lot more that I don't think I've heard.
I am now working on a discography of the works of Vagn Holmboe. Please visit and also contribute!

This is exactly the reason I enjoy list-threads, it's a great doorway for me to new recordings and new music.

Yes, indeed. I wish you were my sister rather than the one I was birthed with and I wish I was joking. ;) If I lived in Italy, we would have to figure out ways we could see more Wagner and Schoenberg concerts. :D

Lovely, Greg. Again, many of these could be favorites of mine as well. I'm going to have to give a listen to Rostropovich recording of Shostakovich's 11th. I'll queue it up next. 8)

Nice list, André! I kind of figured you would go over the limit. ;) Not that there's anything wrong with this of course. I could've easily done the same. :)

Very kind. ;) It would have been great, but unfortunately in Italy Wagner and Schoenberg haven't been performed as much as I would like.  :(

That's okay as you and I would make pilgrimages to Austria and Germany whenever both had the opportunity. 8) I imagine seeing Zemlinsky in concert would prove difficult however.

Nice list of favorite recordings, James! Many of them could've very well made my list had I not followed my own favorite composers list to correspond with the favorite recordings list.

;D I thought you might appreciate it, or at least some of the entries!

Here's the first 30 recordings, in no particular order; I tried not to choose boxes, except when the only recordings I knew were actually from boxes, and when it was possible, I tried to extract them.

Outstanding lists, Ilaria, Greg, and Andre! A lot of great recordings there.

TD: Here are my remaining 20 recordings. Some tough decisions in the cutdown process!

So much great music, so little time...
