I must admit - this is maybe bad taste - my first thought when I heard this necrology was that hopefully someone will unearth a video recording of his Midsummer Night's Dream so that I can finally see it. I have been too long teased by short clips of plate spinners.

There are so many things by Brook which are big for me, it's hard to know where to begin. Maybe the Mahabharata - film and play - is the summit. And let's not forget the book about his work in Africa - The Conference of the Birds.

I am a regular at Bouffes du Nord. Long may it continue to thrive.

I very much enjoyed his circus-style Ubu Roi at the Young Vic (long time ago.)

That's another one I didn't see - by the time I discovered him he'd moved to Paris.

I greatly admired his book The Empty Space when I read it back in my 20s.
