I get checkboxes next to the topics and can choose to mark them all as read or individual topics as read. Do you not?

I think what he's referring to is stopping those topics from reappearing when new posts are made in them. Permanent removal.

Which has never been possible, and as far as I'm aware still isn't possible. If it BECOMES possible, I will delete the One Word Posts from my consciousness.

Maybe this:

When one scrolls up from the bottom of a page with lots of images (e.g. the listening and buying threads), I noticed images are no longer loading instantaneously, in the seamless manner they used to; instead, they are loading as one goes along, resulting in very noticeable and annoying jolts and stutters, losing your position on the page. Can this be fixed? 🤷

Removing the alerts is a long and tedious affair, it has to be selected one by one, and takes too much time. Delete all read messages in on go would be the solution.

If you click All Alerts and scroll down to the bottom right of page 1, you have a Delete All Read Alerts button.

I don't see an emoticon for "Magyar warrior burns village" ... Ok, ok, mate, I can live without it, but where is the angel/halo guy?  Are we restricted to what's listed, or will it take ASCII code creations?

You can add any emoticon you want from your own emoji keyboard(s). Like this: ✈️🎩🦩🦌👍😎

I had to look it up as I had no idea either: For windows laptops, when you type some text in the reply box, press the Windows Key + ; then a pop-up window appears with the available emojis you can insert here.

Try holding Windows Key and press the Full Stop instead (that's what I first saw online but that didn't work for me, the semi-colon did).

Well it seems not EVERY emoji works. (Keyboard built into iPhone software)

On one site they also mentioned using a period instead of the semi-colon.

Usually, you can pick an 'emoji set' to install, or add into, the basic software setup. I assume only the default emoji set has been installed thus far.

From Rob, a few days ago:

You can now choose from a variety of smilies in your Profile. none of the choices are great, I'm afraid.

No further idea Andrei, sorry. What I mentioned was for Windows 10 & 11, I assume you are on one of those two ?
