He died of bacterial meningitis. Someone reported it was viral meningitis, so I'm not sure.

He did the impossible. Wherever he played guitarists came out in droves.

He never had a band like Cream or Led Zeppelin. No one knew who Rod Stewart and Ron Wood were when I saw them with Beck at the Fillmore East in 1969.

So, so sad. My childhood hero. He influenced my musical activities and knowledge tremendously. RIP.

I've been enjoying the 2007 video from the engagement at Ronnie Scott's

I'd start with his first albums with Rod and Ronnie, Truth and Beck-Ola.

For the past century or so I've wondered why Ron Wood gave up playing bass. It's not like he was having trouble or anything.

I haven't heard any Beck outside of the Yardbirds, but that track made me think of Brew-era Miles, and now I want to hear more

No disrespect (I'm a fan), but this is really funny.
Was Jeff Beck the model for Spinal Tap's Nigel Tufnel?

I never knowingly heard anything by Jeff Beck, but since I have Apple Music now I listened to one of the tracks that was listed as one of his best. I really didn't do much for me. It's odd, perhaps, that as a person who (used to) play guitar I never got blown away well known guitarists. I formative experience was listening to Charlie Christian.

I also listened to the first Crosby Stills and Nash album for the first time and it seemed like pretty weak broth to me. :(

I also went back and listened to Led Zeppelin I, and thought it was pathetic, but Led Zeppelin IV is amazing.

I still feel some fondness for a few of the tracks, where (from the Déjà Vu album) I've at times wondered if Crosby ever had the sense to feel embarrassed by "Almost Cut My Hair."

Good point. Off the Beck topic, but I always found Crosby's song Triad absolutely toe-curling. :-[  [Hope I'm using the British term correctly.] I suspect DC was not afflicted by self-consciousness.

The tragedy for Jeff Beck and he was far from being the only one, he detested the one and only hit record. He described it as a pink toilet seat hanging around his neck.

I've never heard of the song, let alone that he detested it.

I also listened to The Rolling Stones first album. Meh. The more I hear 60's pop music, the more I realize how much of a revelation Bob Dylan and The Beatles were.
