The first season of Strange New Worlds is now on Youtube, if you want to watch it before season 2 starts:

Did you know there were loads of Original Trek stories never told?  Here is a list of undeveloped plots from the original series (1966-9) never developed.  Oh, what could have been.

Spock (Nimoy) is always jarring when seeing him expressing himself.  A very great character played by a wonderful person.  I saw him around 2006 where he was the special guest (narrator) at John Williams' annual Hollywood Bowl concert.

I've started watching season 4 of Discovery.

Is this worth getting?

I don't know this, but I remember decades ago enjoying their parody of TOS. So, if I saw this, I might well activate a tractor beam.

What do you folks think of Strange New Worlds Season 2?  I find it excellent writing and great Star Trek but what do you others think?

DavidW

I finished season 4 of Discovery.  I really liked it.  They went out with a bang.  Great first contact story, with a truly unique alien race, very different from the usual Star Trek races.  And I thought that the ending for once wasn't over the top stupid nonsense, but something logically developed through plot and character arcs over seasons 3-4.

My impressions of the show are just my own.  I would rate the seasons as

S1: **
S2: *
S3: ***
S4: ****

where * is terrible and ***** is great.  As you can see it never reaches pinnacle trek for me, but it improved a great deal and then was cancelled once they found their stride.

I watched episodes 1-3 this past weekend. For the most part it was a positive experience, though l found credibility a bit strained a few times.

I'm definitely looking forward to the rest of season two.  8)

What did you mean about credibility strained?

I just finished binge watching the 3 seasons of Picard on Amazon and enjoyed it more than I was expecting.  Actually the last season with all the "Next Generation" old fogeys riding in to save the Federation I found oddly moving.  I don't know if the actors did enjoy their original roles/characters/colleagues but it did seem as if they were pleased to be back in the Star Trek saddle one more time..... Patrick Stewart is looking very old though (positronic body or not!!)

Yes, he's no longer that young whippersnapper he once was.  His voice sounds old too.

Answering carefully to avoid inadvertent spoilers...

A new character was introduced in the first episode who ( for me ) rings completely false. The acting is essentially comedic but the story is not, and it just struck me as exceedingly incongruous.

In the same episode, a character makes decisions which seem highly unlikely given the character's well- established/canonical traits.

Maybe I'm hidebound, trapped in a frozen point- of- view after being a Trekker since the beginning. And in fact l have  mainly enjoyed what I've seen this far. But I certainly would have been more comfortable had the writing been more, well, logical.

I could put this in the What Opera/Now thread, but perhaps it'll be of more interest here.
