I do wish they'd sprung for a few more songs, not just "I Saw the Light," but otherwise it's a classic!

Melodramatic storytelling style but a real refreshing change of pace! You've got me wanting to rewatch "Cries Wolf," which I've only seen once but enjoyed as much for Falk's performance as for the cheesy early 90s hair and fashions...

I wouldn't go so far as to say I don't like it, but I've come to feel that "Uneasy Lies the Crown" is one of the weaker episodes. A bit of a lapse for Steve Bochko.

A very nice tease at the start of "No Time to Die." The scene is a wedding reception. The camera moves in on a table where the Lieutenant is seated with a lady, and we wonder if we've met Mrs Columbo at last.

"It's All in the Game," the first episode (I think) penned by Falk himself. And Faye Dunaway gives him a big kiss. Coincidence? I think not. I like the running "What's your first name?" "Lieutenant" gag.

In "A Trace of Murder" Peter Falk makes a coy reference to his glass eye when he tells the perp, "three eyes are better than one."

Back when @Brian announced the coming blu-ray edition, I embarked on one final tour of the DVDs. Just wrapped up last night with "Murder With Too Many Notes" and "Columbo Likes the Nightlife." Arguably in this or that episode over the course of the series' run, there may be an element or two which is sub-par, but I really don't believe there is a genuinely poor episode in the lot.

By the way, the 70s blu-ray edition is scheduled to arrive right around Thanksgiving, with the 80s/90s run to follow. KL credits Universal with supervising the transfer, and every episode will have a commentary from TV historians and enthusiasts.

I have retained entirely too little from my four or five years of trying to study Japanese, long ago, but seeing American pop culture rendered in Katakana always makes me smile.

He does look on the young side compared to the series. Perhaps this was a very early case in his career.
