The atrocity and brutality of war is all the more exposed when one considers that shifting sides results in the same horrorific experiences. Imagine being a civilian, especially a child, in Dresden, February 1945...
"What I dream of is an art of balance, of purity and serenity, devoid of troubling or depressing subject-matter, a soothing, calming influence on the mind, something like a good armchair which provides relaxation from physical fatigue."  - Henri Matisse

This is a wonderfully powerful piece even without the back story.  I really enjoyed the orchestration and was interested to hear it was NP4 with BBCSO, I'm going to have to try that.  Really nicely done :)
