This is posted in tribute to the recently retired and reknown Emerson Quartet. I've always enjoyed listening to the entire Shostakovich String Quartet cycle (every few years or so). I came across this version by accident (desiring the famous Fitzwilliam set) but was been pleasantly surprised. The live performances (if you can find them, like No. 8 below) by the Emerson are even more thrilling than the recordings, which are quite dynamic in their own right. People gripe about the fast tempi but with this challenging and highly emotional cycle it's not exactly a minus.

Eugene Drucker, 1st violin
Philip Setzer, 2nd violin
Lawrence Dutton, viola
Paul Watson, cello

Thanks! I'm a big fan of the Emersons' cycle, too.
