Last week, Carnegie Hall hosted 7 youth orchestras from around the world, including rarely heard groups from Beijing and Afghanistan. I caught the final three, which were excellent, especially the European Union Youth Orchestra. All seven concerts can be heard on WQXR here.

(poco) Sforzando

I got to NYO-USA, with Marin Alsop conducting Barber 1, Rhapsody in Blue (Thibaudet), Scheherezade, and a couple of forgettable encores. Great stuff. I had a ticket to EUYO the following night but passed it up due to bad weather and reported problems on the railroad.
"I don't know what sforzando means, though it clearly means something."
