Ovation (billed as "The Arts Network") has been around for some time, but has been mostly disappointing until recently. Given a choice I'd probably never watch television again, but it's refreshing that something of substance is being shown on American cable for a change. Are there any other networks like this on American television that I am unaware of?

Not that I know of, but I only use an indoor antenna: the vast wasteland of TV is not worth paying for.

PBS has nearly eliminated all classical music performances, and even its radio NPR section is much weaker than before.  Decades have passed since NBC or CBS have offered anything: they would laugh hysterically at the idea today!!!

Why would you have a live concert with e.g. Dawn Upshaw when you can have something reeeally uplifting, like the freak show known as Big Brother!    >:D

i have a channel now called "lscc.edu", which i didn't have when i lived just 40 minutes away.
it has a lot of good classical videos, nothing too modern but still some good stuff, there was this violin concerto by Korngold i heard for the first time and it was really good!
they also have a film clip from Alexander Nevsky, it might've been the Battle on the Ice scene, but i forgot
