Don't ruin it! About to begin ep. 7.
I want to know about the woman who's always crying on the phone next to Piper.  :)

Don't get your hopes up on that. It's a joke they abandoned early on, for good reason.

I've been revisiting, and enjoying immensely, the Wings sitcom of the early '90s. They just don't make good shows like this anymore. Currently on Season Five:

They do something cool with that late in the season, though.

Yesterday, we did a day trip to the J.E.B. Stuart birthplace in southern VA near the NC line, Old North Winery in downtown Mt. Airy (birthplace of Andy Griffith), and the local museum which had a wonderful exhibit about the making of musical instruments (emphasis on the banjo, fiddle, & guitar) in the Appalachian mountains.  In the gift shop, I picked up the Emmy award winning documentary:

The Last One (synopsis below) - if you're interested in the story of North Carolina moonshining and a demonstration of how it was done, then this is the one for you! :)  Now, I've never even tasted this stuff (living here since 1971) but one of my first patients as a medical intern (probably in '72) at a local community hospital rotation had 'lead poisoning' and after some questioning admitted to drinking a LOT of moonshine - :)

QuoteFilmed in the mountains of North Carolina, The Last One is a journey deep into Southern Appalachia, and Appalachian culture, as seen through the lens of a mason jar. Lifelong moonshiner Popcorn Sutton returns to the southern highlands in his treasured A-Model Ford to seek a suitable location to run one final batch of traditional bootleg whiskey. Through the laborious process of clearing a site, building a furnace, brewing corn mash and distilling high proof moonshine, Sutton reveals the craft of traditional distillation as practiced by his forbears and reveals a lifetime of memories in the trade.

An amazing feat for a first feature. Hints of Bergman, Akerman, Tarkovsky, and Malick are all here, but rather than having the funds of those directors, I believe, it was all done with a single camera, making this picture all the more astounding. The atmosphere of the film is one of disquiet and there are parts which definitely lead one to feel uncomfortable. The scenery was gorgeous and the acting superb. Highly suggest this film.

At one point I think I heard her say something about krumping.

Identity Thief.  Completely formulaic.  Melissa McCarthy delivers a few solid laughs, but she's held back.

Yeah, that one should have been waaaaaaaaay better.

He must have liked her in The Heat.

Just a super fun show. Dennis needs to be in more things. He's such an intimidating and commanding figure on screen.

Orange is the New Black seems quite good.  Gives me reason to believe that Netflix will ultimately become a significant source of original programming.

I worry about Netflix though. They've been losing series, and those they lose seem to be heading over to Hulu, which is essentially a free service with the choice to pay to have advertisements removed.

I'm not a big Hulu user, but I thought generally you need to be a paying user to have access to all episodes of a series.

I mainly use Netflix to rent discs, but it has been disappointing that the body of work that can be streamed has shrunk.

I've not been denied access to any of the series that I've desired to watch on Hulu. Depending on the length of a program, you do have to listen to commercials. But it's slightly better than television, so a show like the Twilight Zone, a 30-minute spot on Hulu will generally have 3 spots that cannot be bypassed without you being part of their premium service, but you're on the Internet so it's easy to simply mute and do something else whilst those are playing.

I also make use of Netflix only for their discs because they're pretty much the only game in town for many obscure titles.

They needed to give Christopher Walken more to do: but maybe his growing girth prevented a more action-oriented role.

It seems like the movie tries to imitate the intensity of Kiefer Sutherland and company in 24...not on the same level as the TV series.

Enemy of the State starring Smith and Hackman:

Hackman's dialogue was a bit hackish, but Smith seems to always do well enough to save any film that he's in. Interesting plot, to say the least, which at one point was classified as a conspiracy-paranoia film. Who knows now?
