The inscription for the movie is "Receive with simplicity everything that happens to you," but the main character experiences so relentless an assault of bad fortune, the epigram comes to seem like a sarcasm. Kind of a modern Job in the American Midwest.

I have never been heavily into James Bond movies, but I have enjoyed especially Roger Moore's Bond. About 2 months ago I got interested again. Bond-movies are not the best movies in the World, but they are entertaining, fun to watch. I bought the Bond movies on Blu-ray (Dr. No to Skyfall) for about 60 euros. I have never cared for Timothy Dalton's and Pierce Brosnan's Bond movies. I had seen Daniel Graig's first 2 Bond-movies, but not Skyfall or Spectre. Casino Royale is ok, Quantum of Solace is bad. Then I see Skyfall. Wow! So good! So well directed by Sam Mendes! Really liked it. Bond finally re-invented the right way after decades! So I wanted to see Spectre too, because it's also directed by Sam Mendes. Luckily it was just shown on TV and I saw it liking it as much as Skyfall! What an unexpected turn. I have only two (minor) things to complain about Skyfall and Spectre:

1. Extremely blant title songs by Adele and Sam Smith. Really boring and syrupy stuff!
2. Yellow tepid tint of the picture. Why can't they emulate "technicolor" picture? I love the colors of early Bond movies.

I particularly like this film. Two brothers of very different character find themselves in a particular situation. The development of this situation and the relationship between the brothers is the essence of the film.

Although he never saw combat, he held a series of important desk jobs, and was part of a team which traveled to the United States to meet with Colonel "Wild Bill Donovan" and helped write the blueprint for the new Office of the Coordinator of Information, which turned into the Office of Strategic Services. This, of course, was the organization which preceded the creation of the CIA.

This is a post apocalyptic film in which a father takes his son "on the road" from the mountains in winter with the aim of heading south to the sea. The film follows the journey and depicts the trials and tribulations along the way through which the father tries to teach his son valuable Life and survival lessons. The film is well done and is definitely worth a watch.

Thread Duty:

Last night, One Hour Photo & Intolerable Cruelty.

The comic movie afterwards was a good palate-cleanser after the discomfiting drama. Again, an outstanding performance by Robin Williams, entirely against type.

Cormac McCarthy is just about my favorite author, but I haven't enjoyed the movies based on his books.  The books are so good, and except for No Country for Old Men, the movies have been pretty bad interpretations of them. 

Yes it is a bleak one Karl and, if the film is a relatively poor interpretation of the book, then the book must be a desolate read.
