Sleepless

This is a taut crime thriller that is action filled and entertaining and worth a watch.

Last Man

Okay but not great. Excellent scenes on the moon.

I am going to rewatch the tv series From the Earth to the Moon, which is excellent. Excellent book too.

First Man last night.

I haven't read the book so l can't compare the adaptation, but l found the minor factual inaccuracies and simplifications to be tolerable. As a speculative study of Neil Armstrong's motives and emotional state, is at least partially successful.

So, Ken B and l both posting films concerning different Apollo astronauts within a few minutes.

On my way to my favorite coffee shop for breakfast this morning, thinking about the movie, l walk past a window touting " Kranz and Associates ". Literally a few seconds later, while still chuckling from the coincidence, l walk past a car with a traditional NASA " meatball " decal on its window.

A cosmic message?

Pondering,

Steak, eggs, Tang.

LKB

I actually am finishing up a breakfast of steak and eggs.  :D ( Skipped the Tang though. While l am certainly a child of the Space Age, that stuff is nasty. )

However, it's my normal Tuesday breakfast,  and therefore cannot be factored into the morning's cosmic equation.

As we count down the final minutes of the morning, we'll see how rendezvous and docking with my favorite bookstore play out.

Thrusting,

The new 5-part series Chasing The Moon in the PBS American Experience series is 10/10 excellent, if you haven't seen it yet - and goes out of its way to highlight less commented on facets and search the archives for unseen or less seen footage.

No, I have not seen it. Had not even heard of it! Thanks for the heads up.

Chronicle

Three teenagers acquire super powers. No it is not your run of the mill teenage superhero film; far from it indeed. This is definitely worth a watch; it is quite a different take on this genre.

Within the last week or so, a couple of blu-ray replacements of some classic films - Dave :)

Jezebel (1938) w/ Bette Davis, Henry Fonda, and many others; William Wyler, director; Max Steiner, score - short synopsis below - one of Davis' best roles - nominated for 5 Oscars, winners for Best Actress, Davis & Best Supporting Actress, Fay Bainter - excellent AV restoration on blu-ray - recommended.

Going My Way (1944) w/ Bing Crosby, Barry Fitzgerald, and others; Leo McCarey - short synopsis below; nominated for 10 Oscars and Winner of 7, including Crosby, Fitzgerald and McCarey; plus 'Best Picture' & 'Musical Song' (Swinging on a Star) - highly recommended.

QuoteIn one of her most renowned roles, Bette Davis portrays Julie Marsden, a spoiled Southern belle who risks losing her suitor with her impetuous behavior. Engaged to successful banker Preston Dillard (Henry Fonda), Julie pushes him away with her arrogant and contrary ways, leading to a scandalous scene at a major social event and his subsequent departure. When Preston eventually returns and Julie attempts to win him back, she discovers that it may be too late.

QuoteFather Charles O'Malley (Bing Crosby) is an easy-going, golf-playing young priest whose entry into a tough neighborhood parish in midtown Manhattan is viewed with skepticism from all quarters, especially the aging Father Fitzgibbon (Barry Fitzgerald). While dealing with some unfinished business from his former life in the form of an old flame who now sings at the Metropolitan Opera (Rise Stevens), Father O'Malley inspires the youth of his parish by forming a boys choir.

Hi Ken - yeh, can be a little corny at times but have always enjoyed; plus, the blu-ray sound restoration is CD-quality, main reason to replace my DVD of the film.  Dave

Ghost in the Shell

This is a visually impressive, action packed, futuristic sci fi film which is a good watch.

I do not particularly like the Western genre of films but this was a particularly good one; something rather a bit different from the norm.

I watched Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (film) again and it's a marvel how they compressed the story down to movie length in a way that captures the essence of the story.

A good movie about the Manchester United Football Club and a tragedy in 1958.
