The put just a liittle too much "English" on the ball for two or three shots too many, and it wrecks the game. I didn't hate it, but I really don't think all that much of it.

Yes, hate seems a bit too harsh for this one. Maybe inconsequential in the end?

Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark (2nd time) just as good as I remembered it. I misremembered it as directed by Del Toro. He produced it, the director was André Øvredal

     I rewatched Gravity. Why?? Because!!

I can't explain beyond being a fan of The Bullock, as she is known to us. When she starts howling along with the dog......

My vertigo meant I listened to this movie instead of watched it. Gravity is on a list with space-flight and mountain-trekking movies that I just can't watch, including the opening of Cliffhanger (1993). The more realistic, the worse it is for me, and that is watching them from the comfort of my own home.

Suffice to say, trips to IMAX theatres and Planetariums are never good... :-[

The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017)

An action comedy that isn't particularly all that funny, but Ryan Reynolds has never been my brand of humor. The car chase/shootout through Amsterdam is pretty great though, and it is harmless popcorn fare.

The poster mimicking Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston in The Bodyguard (1992) is a nice eye wink that makes me chuckle.

I enjoyed it, not sure I see myself watching it again.

Did you see the movie about the guy that walked between the twin towers?  I had that vertigo experience then.

I don't know that movie, but it doesn't sound like one I would seek out from your reaction.  ???

It depends on what the camera work is like. I was fine during Man on a Ledge, a film about a man on a ledge, but I had trouble with the last act of SpaceCamp (1986), a silly family adventure with a score by John Williams (my trouble wasn't from the score).

BOY!  I've not posted in this thread in a while - we've been watching a LOT of TV series, documentaries, food shows, and streaming/DVD musical productions; but just a sampling below of movies from the last few weeks:

Amadeus (1984) w/ F. Murray Abraham, Tom Hulce, and many others - own the BD Director's Cut - have not watched in a half dozen years or so - sounded great on my den stereo and looked spectacular on our new 4K HDTV - likely some 'up-scaling' was done? See quote below for Oscar wins.  Highly recommended!

There's No Business Like Show Business (1954) w/ Ethel Merman, Donald O'Connor, Marilyn Monroe, and others noted in the quote below. Now own the BD but started years ago w/ a VHS tape - video and sound restoration, 3.5/5 & 4/5 HERE - recommended if you're into musicals and like Berlin (I'm in both categories!).

Deep in My Heart (1954) w/ Jose Ferrer as the composer Sigmund Romberg (more in quote below) - plenty of 'cameo appearances' in the scenes from various musicals/operettas - for the time period portrayed, this one can get a little 'corny' according to my wife, but I accept it for the times, I guess. Ferrer is amazingly versatile in the film and worth a watch just for that performance - recommended w/ the reservations mentioned - ;)

Round Midnight (1986) w/ Dexter Gordon (1923-1990), Herbie Hancock, and many others (see quote/link) - a favorite film of ours since its release; own the jazz soundtracks - highly recommended.  Dave :)

QuoteIn 1985, Amadeus was nominated for eleven Academy Awards, including the double nomination for Best Actor with Hulce and Abraham each for their portrayals of Mozart and Salieri, respectively. The film won eight Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Actor (Abraham), Best Director, Costume Design, Adapted Screenplay, Art Direction, Best Makeup, and Best Sound. (edited - Source)

QuoteIrving Berlin's There's No Business Like Show Business is a 1954 American musical comedy-drama film directed by Walter Lang. It stars an ensemble cast, consisting of Ethel Merman, Donald O'Connor, Marilyn Monroe, Dan Dailey, Johnnie Ray, and Mitzi Gaynor. (Source)

QuoteDeep in My Heart is a 1954 MGM biographical musical film about the operetta composer Sigmund Romberg, who wrote the music for The Student Prince, The Desert Song, and The New Moon, among others. Leonard Spigelgass adapted the film from Elliott Arnold's 1949 biography of the same name. Roger Edens produced, Stanley Donen directed and Eugene Loring choreographed. José Ferrer played Romberg, with support from soprano Helen Traubel as a fictional character and Merle Oberon as actress, playwright, librettist, producer, and director Dorothy Donnelly. (Source)

QuoteRound Midnight is a 1986 American-French musical drama film directed by Bertrand Tavernier and written by Tavernier and David Rayfiel. It stars Dexter Gordon, François Cluzet and Herbie Hancock. Martin Scorsese, Philippe Noiret and Wayne Shorter appear in cameos. The protagonist jazzman, Dale Turner, was based on a composite of real-life jazz legends Lester Young (tenor sax) and Bud Powell (piano). While the film is fictionalized, it is drawn directly from the memoir/biography Dance of the Infidels written by French author Francis Paudras. The film is a wistful and tragic portrait that captures the Paris jazz scene of the 1950s. (Source)

I haven't [yet] watched that film, but I do enjoy the acting of both Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.

I love the movies that I've seen her in (off the top of my head):  Miss Congeniality (I and II), The Proposal...Ocean's 8.  Love her comedic sense of timing and execution--wonderful!

Hey PD - I'm a big Bullock fan, too!  8)  Probably own a half dozen of her films, including the Miss Congenialities, but two of my favorites are from her earlier years (1993 & 1995) shown below - quite different aspects of her acting skills.  Dave :)

Thank you for the suggestions Dave!  I've heard of "While You Were Sleeping"--thanks for the reminder.  Haven't heard of "Demolition Man"...is it SciFi?  I'll have to jot them down and see what the library has to offer.  :)

By the way, I've caught bits of "Speed" but never the whole movie.  What do you think of that one (others here please feel free to chime in too)?

I am a fan of Bullock too PD but I would not recommend that film. It was a waste of time; one of those "paycheck" films  ;)

Well, if you like Sci-Fi and travel into the future w/ Stallone vs. Snipes, then Demolition Man may just be up your alley - read the first paragraph of the link (not the whole plot if you plan to watch the film) - as to Speed, also own that one on BD and enjoy.  The only other film of hers in my collection is Practical Magic w/ Nicole Kidman, another fun movie about 'witches' w/ a curse.  Now, I've seen a bunch of other movies w/ her (like The Blind Side & A Time To Kill), but own just the half dozen or so.  Dave :)

Thank you both for your further comments.

Hadn't heard that - many decades of TV and movie enjoyment from him.

For those who remember it, does this make Betty White the last living member from the main cast of The Mary Tyler Moore Show? I know both Cloris Leachman (Frau Blücher) and Gavin MacLeod (Captain Stubing from The Love Boat) both passed this year, and were major players in that show.

I must say I find RR hilarious in the Deadpool films and The Hitman's Bodyguard! But vive la différence etc!

I haven't seen the movie mentioned upthread about the guy walking on a wire between the Twin Towers, but I saw the original documentary, Man on Wire. And if you suffer from vertigo I absolutely recommend NOT seeing it, it's quite terrifying! And I say that as somebody who doesn't really have vertigo.

I'd recommend it to anybody else, an unforgettable film!

Comedy is such a personal taste, so enjoy away; I am usually hesitant to even make mention of it. RR is a strong film personality, so I am usually entertained at the least. I will also avoid Man on Wire;D
