Death on the Nile (2022)
Kenneth Branagh

My wife has been working through our 45 Poirot novels and short story collections over the last few months, so she enjoyed when this one showed up yesterday.

The film has an old fashioned feeling with a visual flair. I think I prefer the more humorous Peter Ustinov and their gallery of 70's actors, but this newer one was fine.

FYI, I have only read And Then There Were None from Agatha Christie.

- a remarkable film. Just very real as it defies expectations and every temptation to be cute. Here's Mr. Siskel: "...what this remarkable movie is after is duplicating the texture of being old in America. And, as we spend the final days with these three characters, we discover that what growing old is about for so many people is being alone. In one heart-tugging scene after another, we see the maturity it takes to make peace with yourself as you grow old. We see the strength it takes to be willing to sit quietly."

And a score by Nino Rota, IIRC.

Tonight at the Philadelphia Film Society, Jazz Fest: A New Orleans Story, a new documentary about the venerable festival (which I've been lucky to attend a few times).

Jack Warden! Fun!

Yes, he was good! Cusack and Palminteri were ok, but other actors were great. I think Dianne Wiest was super and she won many awards.

Watched this fascinating movie yesterday:

Ok I rarely watch Television, but watch SEVEN, what I notice was Inspector Brad Pits character was sutch a pest so annoying and exceding, when Morgan Freeman would be there I would feel releif, I don't know in this movie he is kept hostage whit Inspector gones crazy hey?

Anyone notice the same thing or it's just me,  I would like a remake were Morgan Freeman beat some sense into Brad Pits to come down even if it drive him mad.

What do you think, good short analysis, of the main characters hero, not vilain, what you're cue on this?

Is Brad Pits annoying you Betcha

Just released yesterday, this outstanding documentary starts in 1971 with the first Jazz Fest, then moves through the decades to the main event, the 50th anniversary of the festival in 2019. The musical clips are excellent, interspersed with footage of the city, Hurricane Katrina, and some of the food on offer at the festival, like crab beignets and what seems like an ocean of crawfish. Highly recommended for lovers of jazz, or New Orleans culture in general.

No Time to Die (2021)
Daniel Craig

Despite enjoying the movies, serialized James Bond has driven me crazy. We will see if it continues with the next iteration.

The first major instrumental music cue is 'We Have All the Time in the World', originally sung by Louis Armstrong in On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969), an effective musical throwback. Those who have followed James Bond through the decades will recognize a few very short musical allusions to the past. It is hard not to hear John Barry when it pops up.

A silly lark. I love when a cranky Charles Grodin shows up towards the end! In any movie, really...
