Lovely movie. The Busby Berkeley musical numbers are a pleasure to watch.

Rear Window.

Loved everything about it.  :)  Check out this publicity shot(?) of Raymond Burr!

There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

Solitary Wanderer

Yep, classic movie Rear Window.

Next time you have an intruder, remember to keep your camera flash handy  ;)

The new version.

abe - when you say nonsensical do you mean (decides to avoid spoilers) what Crowe does when he gets his gun back, or the ambiguous way that it finally ends?
By the way, Roger Ebert said to pay extra-careful attention to Crowe's last line, but I can't for the life of me remember what the hell it was. Oops. I loved the film, though, thought it was a glorious bit of entertainment which asked you not to use your brain too much.

*spoiler for 3:10 To Yuma*

I meant Wade's actions towards Dan Evans.  I understood that he came to respect and personally root for him--and I understood that Wade must've not been all nasty and cruel inside (as the kid says.) But the way that Wade risks his own life to assist Evans reach his goal struck me as prepostrous. Still, every moment before then was solid gold and I'm glad I caught it in theaters (though one can easily see it on dvd with no loss)

And an excellent film, particularly for the times, but it holds up well.  Thanks for the reminder, think I'll put it in rotation.

Tropfest (Tribeca Film Festival's Short Film Competition Finals) yesterday evening. Watched 16 shorts, some were very creative, some were dull. But the atmosphere could not be beat. The event took place down at the marina right next to where I live. There was a huge crowd and a giant theatre screen placed in the middle of the plaza.
A very casual event, where you buy your bagels and sit down on the ground to watch. The weather was very accomodating too. I enjoyed it a lot.

At home, it was all sillyness:

I thought it was great  :D

Abe, this is how you do spoilers (the classic way)-- highlight your spoiler, hit glow then delete "red" and replace it with "black".

I would have liked it better without the inane Tarantino prattle, I guess I just don't care for it anymore.  It would have been better as an hour movie, instead of a two hour movie. :-\

Looks like a congressional report.

terrifying, overwhelming, perfect ending, i love films which end like this, with a step into the void. always leaves me paralysed for minutes after. at times I thought the film cut it a bit close to the bone and the love interest once in a while seemed a bit contrived, but the overall effect is shattering, and the lead actress plays her part and transformation to sheer perfection.

Exactly, it's delightful. ;D  I think I'll put a post with most of the lines blacked out, and then immediately after complain that I'm being censored by the moderators. ;) >:D :D

The Emperor

#1836
Just saw death proof, i mean really, what was the point of this movie? Tarantino has really lost it...
Really crappy movie, no great dialogue, no plot whatsoever, nothing memorable

Kurt Russell's caracter was fine at the beginning, made me laugh a bit and he seem like a badass to remember, then all of a sudden he starts whinning...
And what about this girl power thing? Is Tarantino trying to score with the ladies? Jackie Brown(which was still fine), Kill Bill, now this...
Jesus, i hardly believe it was the same guy that did reservoir dogs and pulp fiction.

Well, yeah. There are those who are into the "prattle" and those who just aren't.

I think I'm with the Emperor-- Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs were so much better than this movie, so what happened?  Tarantino's dialog used to be witty instead of insipid. :(

Well, the concept is grindhouse films. Have you seen any grindhouse films? As far as the '70s vibe, I think he totally nailed it--and I dig that vibe. I haven't seen any grindhouse films so you'll have to tell me whether he nailed it or not. I mean, in a way, it was supposed to be mindless--that's the concept: mindless violence and sex and a bunch of craziness.
