This sounds like what happens to me on occasion, though in my case it goes away fairly quickly. Plan Z is to Google YT and try from there.

This appears to have done the trick. And all I have to contend with now are ads targeted for the Tel-Aviv area.

I didn't even think to ask whether you were connecting via a VPN. Glad you got it working again.

Guess what just happened? I tried to connect to Schwab and got a "can't connect because ckjyjmvjj6r" or something like that. So I hit "quick connect" on my VPN and vwah-laah!! No Azerbaijanites were harmed and in fact I'm still in New York City.

Definitely a trivial First-World Problem, but clearing my cache resulted in losing my 163-game Byrdle streak. Oh well, hard Emmenthaler.

I didn't know that people were still using VPNs in this day.  I never really saw the point of it.  You would have to be paranoid but not paranoid enough, or really eager to avoid geolocking.

Nice try, but I plead the fifth. Oh wait......that could be construed as paranoia!

Allow me to revise and extend......Sure, David, I see your point. VPNs are a yesterday thing.  ;D

My anti-virus program routinely establishes a VPN. Historically, I'd relocated it geographically in order, say, to see BBC videos.

Even better: I get to hear Hebrew in YouTube ads, and the incidence of obnoxious pro-Trump ads on that platform has plummeted. I'm wishing I'd thought of this sooner.

Never too old. 22 main letters, five finials. For Russian you needed to learn 33 characters. 27 should be a breeze.

Duolingo does have what appears to be a useful module for learning the letters. Will give it a go.

I had to re-patriate to the States for access to my bank's website. Maybe that little bit of juggling was all that was needed: YouTube is still (again?) behaving normally.

I try to log in to New York because it's close and the same time zone. For some reason I'll end up in New Hampshire or some other place. Occasionally it will say "United States". That slightly crimps functionality since my bank and CC portals get all huffy like I'm trying to pull something.

OK, that was a lie. They just don't work. For some reason I usually can get away with being in New York.
