Looks like it's going to be another big year for composer anniversaries: Bartók, Shostakovich, Ravel, Saint-Saëns, Boulez, Satie, Varèse...to name a few.

KevinP

Rather disproportionately French after the first two.

Strauss II is about it otherwise when it comes to major composers. And Bartók's isn't even a major multiple-of-50 anniversary.

Gibbons, Palestrina.  And Pärt will be 90.

There should be rules for Composer Anniversaries. Only the years when the composer was born should matter, because do we want to celebrate the composer died? Multiples of 100 years is a no brainer, but how about odd multiples of 50 years? 25 years? In my opinion only multiples of 100 years. That's when it counts! In my opinion, next year should be anniversaries of composers born in 1925, 1825, 1725, 1625, 1525,...

Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

It's not about celebrating the composer dying. Like with birth anniversaries, it's about celebrating their work and what they left behind for us to enjoy years, decades, centuries down the line.

And where the hell did you copypaste that list from? You've got Boulez and Berio down twice. Did they born and die the same year or 100 years apart or something?!

Why not celebrate every day?

Mostly from Wikipedia. It was pain in the as for all the table formatting. Your tone of voice made me feel my contribution wasn't welcome.  I removed the duplications. Thanks for noticing!

Haha true, though we sort of do on here I think. But people often like an excuse for a bit of a party too, and anniversaries seem to fit the bill nicely.

Because orchestras program their annual concerts around these anniversaries.

Bach's 340th birth year will be in 2025.

I suppose that means in 2035 we will have another round of Bach editions if streaming hasn't ultimately killed the big box by then.

Bach 333 was stupid anyway but hey marketing people need to sell stuff. I'm not entirely sure how music production shall sustain itself as people gradually stop buying discs even if vinyl hipsters (younger people that is) cause a resurgence in its sale.

Streaming pays pennies... What's the plan here...

Yeah, I remember at the time I thought book publishers were dinosaurs for fighting so hard against ebooks, keeping the pricing up, and not putting things on Kindle Unlimited (streaming for ebooks). But man, they were brilliant. The music and movie world has been decimated by streaming. And people act like these studios don't want you to own anything... seriously they would KILL to be back in the place where everyone bought DVDs and CDs.

Streaming hurts everyone.
