I gave up on Twin Peaks: The Return when it aired and decided it might have been a mood thing so I started it again last night. I can see what I think was missing: the soundtrack! The nearly constant music in the original show set the tone in each scene so well and was such an integral part of the series. When you take that away, it feels like a rough cut with something missing. But getting over that, it is not as different from the original as I thought it was.

Wild at Heart

The Straight Story

Inland Empire

I found Inland Empire difficult (I stopped watching it twice after less than half an hour), but on my third attempt I simply did not try to figure anything out, and just watched the scenes flow by.

Let's call it a satire-nightmare on California's entertainment business: if it does not make much sense, that's fine, because much in California's entertainment business makes no sense in real life!   8)

One of the more brilliant scenes has Michael Cera imitating Marlon Brando from The Wild One!

Unfortunately, the scene is not available on YouTube or elsewhere.

Loved him.  RIP.  Very interesting film maker and surprisingly convincing actor.  He's briefly in Steven Spielberg's biofilm, The Fabelmans.
