Quote from: Kalevala on June 04, 2025, 01:50:12 AMI wonder whether or not it could have anything to do with the amount of data and the length of some of the threads?

K

Well, there's sometimes a message that the server is under high stress. The "Forbidden" message is different, and was new for me yesterday.
Every single post on the forum is unnecessary. Including the ones that are interesting or useful.

I don't believe that I've ever received the "Forbidden" message before.

Wait, are we on the right forum [See above two posts]?!  :o

It might not be bots. The number of "guests" we had today is well below the worst day

I found out that the forbidden message has something to do when I try to link certain pictures from other sites. If you look at the linked picture's information, there are actually two addresses there. One of the addresses has an error in link and the next address has no such message and looks normal. So the linked picture has two addresses that are somehow being brought along when you copy-and-paste the image.

I hope this is making sense, but strange is all I can really say.

I got the "Temporally unavailable--high stress" message a few minutes ago.

I have now got the "forbidden" message every time I during the last two days have tried to access the forum, but only when I use Microsoft Edge. With Google Chrome I have got the "high stress" message a few times but also have been able to access the forum and log in several times during these two days. Why the difference between these two browsers?

Symphonic Addict

Too much unstable today. Will the site need an update of sorts?
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied.

Same here. Server is in overdrive. Invasion of the bots?

Are you trying to enter the forum at the same point in both cases?

My standard entry point is the "Updated Topics" page I've mentioned. I'm getting the Forbidden message on my desktop using Firefox, but can then type in some other page (not necessarily the home page), and from there I can go to Updated Topics and everything is fine. The misbehaviour is only on the first attempt.

Whereas I don't think I've yet had any problems using my iPhone and Safari.

That's purely coincidence.
I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.

I hope between out and in's to post something, but this situation is happening on a regular basis. It could be avoided though.

I had the Edge browser set to open with GMG's mainpage. Now I have set it to open with the log-on page - and it seems to work. Thanks for the help.

Can we send the server to a spa (to destress it)?

I'm afraid the mixture of the server being there and the steam might electrocute fellow spa goers. Perhaps we can get the server its own private session. ;D

I think you mean between the two clients (browsers). I couldn't say specifically, but generally speaking the serving of a web page involves two way exchange of data. You type in a URL, the server sends the top level page, which contains references to secondary elements, images, controls, scripts, etc. The browser then requests these secondary elements. If the server is not performing well the browser could submit a secondary request based on a garbled or incompletely downloaded page which would result in an error. One browser may be more robust rhan another in recognizing bad data.

No, no, no!  That wasn't what I was thinking of [which also would kill the server too] more like: yoga, stretching, meditation, er...specialized facial(?), healthy diet, a good-night's sleep, etc.

Ah, okay. Well, that indeed would be much better for the server than a steam bath. ;D
