Elgarian Redux

#20

I've been listening to this Buddy Holly album a lot recently. It was a flop when released in the 1980s, and some may be irritated by tracks where there's a bit too much of a Rick-Wakeman-style synthetic character to the backing, but I don't myself find that troublesome. The entire album consists mostly of beautiful re-workings of Buddy Holly's songs, usually with typical Hollies harmonies.

Here's a sample:

This superb song was written by Peter Knight and recorded by Steeleye Span for their Sails of Silver album. The Hollies recorded this version, which was buried 'certain fadoms in the earth', and consequently remained an inexplicably well-kept secret. If they'd released it as a single, it would surely have been a hit for them, one would think.
