This week, my work schedule was reduced from forty to sixteen hours a week, after a full-time career which began in 1984.

I've been telling folks that I'm now " 60% retired ". I must say it's a rather pleasant prospect, knowing you'll enjoy a five-day weekend every week. I'll eventually figure out a way to remain somewhat productive with the added available time, but for now it's rather enough to just sort of float, relax and try to acclimate back into a normal sleep schedule after years of graveyard shifts.

And, I'll have time and ( hopefully ) motivation to resume composing... a Mass, an opera and some choral motets have been on the back burner for a very long time.  8)

Congratulations! It's such a great period of life when the weight of other people's demands finally eases off, and you can focus more on your self, your soul, and God.

That is kind of what I would like out of retirement, not just ceasing, but a great reduction in work. It would be nice to teach a single section of a class with no expectations of endless paperwork, meetings, committees, etc.

But by the time I retire, I might feel differently.

Anyway, congratulations!

I retired in 2014. The only "work" I do is also my hobby, which is hovering over my nest egg.

Many congratulations. I'm working hard not to be envious.

Thanks, and if you fail in that endeavor, you are forgiven ( since I myself have been guilty of such over the years ). ;)

It currently concern's a certain one-legged whaling captain, and his vengeful obsession with a rare cetacean.

After reading Melville's grand opus, I was inspired by the amazing prose and vivid imagery he was able to conjure upon the page. This was in the early '90's, and I came up with some rather good music for a couple of the scenes. Since then Moby Dick has found it's way to the stage in at least two opera that I'm aware of, possibly more. That being the case, what music there is may be re-purposed to another story ( assuming I get off my lazy composing a$$ and get back to it ).
