Most famous classical person, I think is easily Anna Lapwood (over a million on Instagram, and has performed with major artists and has photos with very famous people - like Tom Cruise).

I believe she also has a legitimate hit pop song - her rendition of Aurora's The Seed is considered the version of that song (by Aurora, I believe).

You raise excellent points.  I don't pay attention to social media for the most part, so I don't know who has large followings, but that is probably a reasonably good gauge of fame today.  It's certainly a better gauge than dead media outlets like Gramophone, which has a circulation of around 25,000, I believe.  I also confess I had not heard of Anna Lapwood before, and that's on me.

Andrea Bocelli has 3.5 million followers on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/andreabocelliofficial/), and André Rieu has 3.6 million (https://www.instagram.com/andrerieu/). It is quite possible that they are not the record holders though.

But to put things into perspective, Beyonce has about 310 million Instagram followers, Justin Bieber has about 295 million, Taylor Swift has about 282 million.

ETA Checking with Google, the most followed entertainer is Selena Gomez (417 million), but the two most followed people are Christian Rinaldo (662 million) and Lionel Messi (506 million). (The most followed account is Instagram's own account, 692 million followers.)
