I'm a long time Mac user and for a long time have also used the Music app in the Mac OS (formerly iTunes). I make playlists, transfer a few at a time of them to my iPad, and listen via bluetooth headphones.

Around 2021 iTunes began corrupting my playlists, so deleted them all and started again in a new root directory. However Music has now begun to do this again and I am getting fed up.

Is there an app that runs on Mac which does exactly what I have described above, but doesn't corrupt playlists?

There are special apps for Mac designed for creating playlists. I don't use them myself, but I'm aware they exist. A Google search might help.

I've been a Mac user since the early '90s, but I've practically never used iTunes or the Music app. To play music from my Mac, I've used various specialized applications, which I've described in detail here: https://www.good-music-guide.com/community/index.php?msg=1634269.

A good, simple, and free player I currently use is Pine Player, you may create playlists with it as well, I guess.

Ok, I better answer my own question in case anyone turns this thread up by googling.

I've found a program called Doppler (it's not in the Apple App store, but you download it from here). You download the app and Doppler Transfer to the PC, the app for iPhone (works on iPad too) to the iPad. You can then make playlists on the PC and transfer them via usb cable to the iPad.

Seems to work OK, it's not an audiophile application as it doesn't have all the equalisers &c, but mp3s sound better than in Music, and it plays flacs too.

I'm doing a trial of it atm, but you pay $30 one off to have it working permanently (don't know if you have to pay for both apps or whether the payment covers both).

When you say "PC" do you just mean computer? I thought you were dealing with a Mac.
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

People seem to use 'PC' now to mean desktop computer, whether Mac or Windows or other.
