I thought it would never happen..but Lyrita just re-released Gordon Crosse's 'Nocturnal cycle" "Changes". (1965 - 66)

It is a beautiful performance of a beautiful work - Jennifer Vyvyan's ethereal voice is perfect for this music - in the concluding The door of death she is absolutely ravishing.John Shirley Quirk is the baritone soloist, Norman del Mar conducts the LSO & LSO chorus and two children's choirs.

it is a "Brittenesque" work - Crosse set poems ( thomas Browne, Blake,Herrick, Davenant etc) and texts found on churchbells -that suggests varied images of transformation : from darkness to light ( death to resurrection).

Warmly recommended.

I never heard Ariadne. However, it might be Crosse's most performed work. Very little of his music has been recorded. Don't miss this chance.
