I've lately been keeping track of websites that use a "bot check" software before allowing you to continue to the main website. Cook Political Report, eBay, Roger Ebert, my car service shop, Scotrail, The Scots Magazine, Discogs, Berkshire Record Outlet, the WNBA.

However, two of these (Scotrail and the WNBA) decided that I AM a bot and blocked me. In both cases, their pages failed to load properly, so I refreshed them, but refreshing a page is apparently "bot behavior" so this caused them to block me.

Cloudflare Brian is the road to salvation, and it can be integrated into the GMG software, it keeps Bots away, and certainly does not block you. I own a pretty large IT company, as an investment, and the techs say Cloudflare. It has proven itself. But I said this before many times, but to no avail.

Actually Scotrail uses Cloudflare and blocked me.  :(

Edit: I suspect Rob's proposed solution of blocking Russia would take care of a LOT of the problem.

Then it is probably installed in the wrong way. Properly integrated it works fine. My company has about 500 clients using it, and there are no problems at all.

Interesting, so far I've never had that problem.  I've noticed though, that I'm getting notices from more websites to verify that I'm a human; I click on the box and am given access to it/them.

Scotrail uses Cloudfare (I just checked*), so it's obviously not problem-free.

The WNBA site didn't try to "verify that I am a human". Maybe Cloudfare carried over from the Scotrail site?

*Hopefully none of us need to use the Inverness route because it's currently disrupted.

I went to the supermarket and wanted to purchase an item on weekly special. The store required me to clip a digital coupon, which required me to log into their web site, which had to be approved by Cloudflare. Cloudflare site hung up, and by the time it went through I was at another supermarket purchasing the same item.

We don't. I think the real takeaway is that there's no solution to the Bot Infestations that's 100% problem free.

This happened with me when GMG had that ~6 month-ish long down time around 10-15 years ago. Same thing has now happened to me at Audio Circle (which uses the same software as GMG) when I tried to login to my account I haven't used in a few years. There are bunch of threads about it in their help forum.
