Beauty

Mark

I'll tell you what I find a little puzzling about the concepts of beauty so far shared in this thread: they're predominantly visual. Not at all what I'd have expected from the members of a classical music forum. For me, arguably the most beauty I've ever encountered has come through listening to music.

Hmm, for some this comes close to kitsch....well crafted, well painted, but kitsch.

Kitchy painting, maybe, but some people might like it well enough to hang it above their sofa.

The text though, is totally unacceptable at GMG in on a topic of 'Beauty'.  $:)

Beauty? Again, I disagree.
Sure, this (photoshopped?) model is young and has regular traits. The photo however ( the way she poses) makes her look  "cheap " and rather stupid.  It is the glamourized ,fake beauty of commercials, B-movies and glossy magazines.
But a real woman, with a brain and a heart ? I doubt it.
Sad, because she seemed so promising in Redford's The Horse Whisperer, but in spite of the extraordinary mentorship offered by Redford, Chris Cooper, Diane Wiest, Kristen Scott Thomas, and other consummate professionals, she chose to become a commodity rather than an artist.  Happens all too often when worldly success is thrust too quickly on the young.  A real woman?  Not quite--rather a child playing at being a woman.  Cheap and stupid?  I agree--a caricature of feminine beauty rather than the real thing.

One day, a couple of years ago, my girl Jasmine and I had a horrible fight. I felt that I was making her miserable, and because I love her I told her I was leaving. She yanked my leather jacket away from me and she and it fell on top of our bed, sobbing hysterically into the jacket (because it was mine). I felt my heart and face fall: never have I experienced such love.

To have this pretty young woman crying her eyes out for me...it was easily the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

I couldn't leave. I'm still here.

Mayhap they're having an encounter with the Vibra-Slap?

It is nothing new, to know that beauty is more than skin-deep.

Yet, how soon it is forgotten, and by how many.

For reading:  my first few encounters with Jesus' parable of the Prodigal Son brought copious tears. Conversely, so did Friedrich Nietzsche's portrayal of Jesus in (of all places) "Der Antichristlich". I should also mention Thomas Kempis' Imitation of Mary.

Nietzsche's last essay (on the "Genius of the Heart") in Beyond Good and Evil is also worth mentioning.

So it's true: Germans really don't have a sense of humour. ::)

Odd, though, that you should allow a reference to oral sex in reply #65 go uncensored.

I got a bj from Wagner's overture to Rienzi yesterday, followed by a massage from the Adagio to Bruckner's 7th.

You're right, beauty is in the blood, and the heart, and the brain, but NOT in the "mind."  You can't take beauty away from this earth.

Ninny.  It's just a bit of silliness from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Yes, and a brilliant reference it was, too!

Those fat beeatches do not represent beauty.
